Why it made our list
Why we picked Amazon Basics Outdoor Smart Plug.
Two independently controlled outlets make this outdoor plug more flexible than a single shared switch. It can put suitable lights on different schedules while keeping setup within the Alexa ecosystem. It is a sensible choice for an existing Alexa household, but it is not the best option if you want Apple Home or another platform without Alexa as the controller.
A good fit if…
Alexa households scheduling compatible outdoor lighting and other approved loads.
Check these first.
- Works exclusively with Alexa and requires 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
- Check each load and Amazon Basics Outdoor Smart Plug’s electrical limits before connecting equipment.
- Weather resistance does not permit immersion or every installation location.
- Use an appropriate protected outdoor outlet and follow mounting and cover instructions.
Our recommendation, in context.
Check Wi-Fi at the outdoor outlet rather than assuming indoor coverage extends there. Weather resistance applies to Amazon Basics Outdoor Smart Plug’s stated conditions, not to every extension lead or appliance attached to it. Plan cable routing, outlet protection, and manual access before installation. Choose this for appropriate lighting or other permitted loads, and do not automate equipment whose instructions require attendance or a manual safety check.
We reviewed published product information; we have not tested Amazon Basics Outdoor Smart Plug hands-on. Published capacity and performance figures depend on the stated operating conditions. Confirm the exact offer, seller, and availability before ordering.
